BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog (ABBB) is a large size sturdy, muscular and well-developed breed with a broad head and natural drop ear. The muzzle is prominent and is covered with loose upper lips. Hips are narrower than chest while the straight back is as long as dog is high at shoulders. The ABBB is one of the last remaining breeds that are typical of the original English bulldog. While descendents of bulldogs, this breed is different and separate from English bulldog and is not just another variation of the breed. They have all the qualities of a bulldog except in a more exaggerated form. The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs are taller and leggier as well as more athletic and energetic than most other bulldog breeds. The dog stands anywhere from 20 to 25 inches and weighs in between 70 to 90 pounds. Weight for females is 55 to 75 pounds. There is a very visible difference in the size and weight between a male ABBB and its female counterpart with female dogs being shorter and lighter. This does not in anyway mean that there is any difference in bulldog traits. The coat is short and comes in many colours usually with white predominant. The eyes are well set apart with varying colours from brown to blue. This breed is NOT recognized by AKC.

COLOR
The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog comes in many colours with atleast 50% body covered with white. They can be predominantly white or solid white with patches of Merle, brindle, solid blue, black, chocolate, red, fawn, seal or tricolored.

COAT
The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog coat is short, dense and coarse. It covers the body uniformly and has a natural sheen. There is no feathering on legs or tail.

PERSONALITY
This unique dog is known for being very protective, responsible, dutiful, alert, loving and very trainable. These traits make this dog an excellent house pet as well as a fierce protector of the family and/or territory. This eager to please dog is kind and gentle with all family members, specially children. It loves to spend time with the family. This dog prefers to be with his master rather than being outside. They are eager to please dogs with a playful romping at an all time high. This dog breed is known for its protective nature and it proves to be fiercely protective of their family from any type of danger. Together with their alertness and fearless nature, these dogs make excellent watch and guard dogs. They are very gentle and patient with children and specially have protective instincts for them. Therefore it is important to socialize the dog with friends and kid's playmates to avoid any mishap due to misunderstanding on dog's part. This dog bonds itself strongly with the family and wants to be with them as much and as often as possible. This dog is an excellent family, companion, watch and guard dog to have.

CARE
The short and harsh coat of ABBB requires minimal grooming. The dog is an average shedder and brushing the coat twice a week would keep it clean. Bathing this dog once or twice a month will cut down on 'doggy smell' that it may have.

TRAINING
The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is an intelligent dog. Training is very easy due to its intelligence and willingness. The trainer should focus on obedience training so that the dog can be called off when required. The training should start at a very young age and socialization with other dogs, pets, various places and different people should be a key part of it. The more trained a dog, the less likely it will show aggression unless it is protecting its territory. Training should never be harsh and forced as it will invoke aggression in the dog; rather gentle and affectionate reward based training should be given.

ACTIVITY
The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs are very energetic and have accustomed to being outside protecting their territory. When in the house, they are relatively inactive. They need long walks and enough play time to ward off any signs of obesity and weight gain. These dogs like to play with their family specially kids. They can go on playing chasing a ball or jogging along side children and elders for hours. When in a yard, they can play by themselves. Lack of training can cause the dog to become destructive as well as it can start barking excessively. These dogs are very good companions when going for hiking, hunting and camping.
