BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The American Bull Mastiff is not a pure breed. They are mixtures between an Alaunt type German Mastiff and American Bulldog or White English Bulldog. This breed is gritty like bandogs, and greatly resembling the Boer Boel of South Africa, which themselves were developed mainly from German and Dutch Alaunt type bulldogs and Mastiffs. Various Bull and Mastiff breeds were imported into North America from various countries. Such dogs have always been used in guarding farms and controlling livestock. Various types developed in various locations. The American Bull Mastiff represents one of these variations. The American Bull Mastiff is only registered with the BBC.

COLOR
Coat colors of these breeds include fawn, fawn and white, brindle and white, white.

COAT
The coat of these breeds are short, close-fitting, harsh and coarse.

PERSONALITY
The American Bull Mastiff requires a firm handler, yet they are very protective. They absolutely love children and are natural protectors bred for the specific task of livestock/family protection. The ability of this task is necessary to the old days of the true "Brand -dog". Used to control unruly cattle and swine, as well as intruders, the American Bull Mastiff is a holding dog, par force. This breed will be completely submissive with proper training and a handler who has a natural authority over the dog. Proper human to canine communication is necessary.

CARE
They will enjoy a daily brushing but it is not required. Their nails needs to be trimmed once a month and occasional cleaning of teeth should be done. Bathing should also be done when necessary.

TRAINING
The American Bull Mastiff is an intelligent breed and is very easy to train. Early socialization and obedience training is recommended.

ACTIVITY
These breeds will do okay in an apartment living provided that they are given enough exercise they needed. They are normally active indoors and will do with a small yard. Moderate exercise is needed in order to keep them physically and mentally fit. A brisk walk twice a day or running routines and frequent outdoor activities will suffice their need to burn out their energies.
