BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The American Gointer is a cross breed of the English Pointer and the Golden Retriever. They can easily be confused for the yellow Labrador. They have light patches above their shoulders and may have white markings between their eyes. Also their footpads and tip of tail may be white. They make a very good family pet as they are very loving and caring to their human pack. They are very loving and friendly towards children and other small pets in the family.

COLOR
The color of these dogs varies with combinations of brown, tan, gold, orange and lemon, with darker shades in the ears and paws.

COAT
The coat of the American Gointer is short, thick and tight to the skin. Coat colour is light cream or golden fawn.

PERSONALITY
They love to love and being loved. They show their best skills to persons who pay attention to them and interact with them. If not properly trained at early age, some of these hybrids may become possessive and mildly aggressive.

CARE
Lots of attention is what the American Gointers long for. They also require lots of exercise; both mental and physical, to keep their amazing energy levels under control.

TRAINING
They are very intelligent and quick learners. They can learn new tricks and behavior reforms when treated with patience.

ACTIVITY
Regular two hour exercise is necessary for these dogs. They should also be left to run in a dog park without leash.
