BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Australian Bandogs are used as multipurpose utility and are known for their abilities as guard dogs, watch dogs and hunting dogs. This large size dog has broad and pronounced head with small eyes. The eyes may be of same colour as coat but sometimes differ in colouring. The muzzle is square and face may or may not contain wrinkles. The ears are full and dropped. The body is large but not overly massive and gives the dog a royal look. The dog can have a height between 25-30 inches and weight in between 65-85 pounds. The Australian Bandog is NOT recognized by AKC.

COLOR
The Australian Bandog is found in different colours. Most common colours for this breed are black, brindle, blue, fawn, red, mahogany and blonde.

COAT
The coat is short and soft and easy to take care of.

PERSONALITY
The Australian Bandog dogs are loyal, protective and dependable. These are highly intelligent dogs who is very confident yet docile. The dogs are good family pets as long as the owner is able to display a true packleader qualities. He must establish himself as higher in dog's pack in order to win obedience of the dog. This dog can be aggressive towards other dogs if not properly socialized from puppyhood. It is not suitable for first time dog owners or feeble owners. A properly socialized dog will get along with other dogs as well as other animals. Good natured, mild mannered and easy going, the dog displays love and affection for its family but is naturally suspicious of strangers. Its alertness makes it an excellent watch and guard dog.

CARE
The short coat needs no extra maintenance other than brushing once or twice a week and bathing as needed. The dog can live in an apartment if provided with enough exercise to keep its energy levels down. This dog is relatively inactive indoors.

TRAINING
Training the Australian Bandog should not be a problem as the breed is highly intelligent and willing to learn. Pups should not be pushed hard to learn until they are ready. This time period varies from dog to dog and trainer to trainer. These dogs need firm and consistent trainer.

ACTIVITY
This dog will need lots of physical activities to cut down its energy levels. A long daily walk and some free run and play time in a secure open area will keep these dogs happy and content.
