The Auvergne Pointing Dog is an old hunting breed originating in France. It is believed to be a cross between Gascons and Pointers. The dog has long head and long muzzle. The skull is slightly doomed. Eyes are large, oval shape and hazel coloured with a black nose. Long ears are set low, near the rear of skull. The long tail is slightly arched. Body of Auvergne Pointing Dog is well-built with chest well let-down, rounded ribs and short, slightly arched and well-muscled loins. The dog has strong and long forelegs and well-muscled thighs. The coat is short, fine and shiny.
The height and weight of the Auvergne Pointing Dog ranges from 22.5 to 24.5 inches and 48-55 pounds respectively.
The dog appears powerful and strong without being heavy.
