GENERAL
The Basset fauve de Bretagne is a short legged dog breed classified as Scenthound and originating from a historical place, Brittany, in France. It is also known as 'Brittney Basset'. This dog is used in small packs to track rabbits and deers. A direct descendent of now extinct larger Grand Fauve de Bretagne, the Basset fauve de Bretagne is a rare breed outside France. The dog resembles the Basset Hound but is shorter, lighter and longer in the leg. One of the smallest hunting breeds in France, the Basset fauve de Bretagne has height and weight between 12-15 inches and 36-40 pounds respectively. The dog has dark eyes and its ears just reach end of its dark nose. The legs are straight. The coat comes in red, wheaten and fawn colours with wiry, harsh and dense fur. The Basset fauve de Bretagne is a very amusing and friendly dog when it is not tracking or working. The Basset fauve de Bretagne is NOT recognized by AKC however, FCI, ANKC, UKC and other kennel clubs recognize this dog as separate breed.

PERSONALITY

Very courageous and brave, it can take on much larger animals than itself when on a hunt. On the flip side, when the dog is at home, it displays its gentle and affectionate nature.
