BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Braque Dupuy may perhaps be the most rare breed in the world and is extremely difficult to obtain. During 1600's many forms of French Braqque were developed in the quest to find a superior hunting dog and the Braque Dupuy is one the few breeds that remain today. This dog is very rare even in its country of origin, France and perhaps a few hundred Brawue Dupuy dogs remain today. It is a large dog with a height and weight of 25-27 inches and 45-65 lbs respectively. Head and muzzle are long and narrow. Eyes are brown or amber in color. Ears are long and set on level with eyes. Nose is black. Neck is long, round and slender. Back is firm with arch loins and chest is deep. Tail is carried low. Coat is short and fine and comes in different colors.

COLOR
Coat colors include white with reddish brown, orange or liver markings.

COAT
The breed coat is short and fine.

PERSONALITY
Braque du Puy dogs are known for their speed, agility and flexibility and have excellent scenting skills. They are more suited to country life especially for hunting in low lying marshlands and bushy areas. Conversely, they are not powerful swimmers and do not work well in water. Since, they are high spirited, they require a lot of exercise. A lively and energetic breed, Braque du Puy proves to be a nice, affectionate and impressive pet and a companion for families. The Braque Dupuy is the tallest of the French Braque (others include the Braque D'Auvergne, the Braque D'Ariege, Braque du Borbonnais, and Braque St. Germain) breeds. Braque Dupuy are excellent gundogs for hunting over wide-open terrain and plains areas. Braque Dupuy are intelligent and very good-looking dogs. Appearance-wise, they look and act very much like hounds.

CARE
The coat requires grooming every other day to keep the mantle shining regularly.

TRAINING
Training this dog is not an easy job nor is it a work of an in-experienced person. The dog can be stubborn and difficult to contain outdoor due to its strong scent skills. The trainer will need to be calm and confident as well as patient when it comes to training this dog.

ACTIVITY
This dog has high demand for physical and mental activities. It needs to run and play in large open areas due to its working and hunting background. The dog will need lots of exercise to keep itself busy, happy and content.
