The Chow Shepherd is a mix between a purebred Chow Chow and a purebred German Shepherd. They are called hybrid dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds. These hybrids are medium size dogs with an average height and weight of 18 to 22 inches and 40 to 80 pounds. They are loyal and devoted to their family. These dogs are intelligent and alert and wary of strangers.
They are found in different colours like black, blue, brown, red and white or any mix of these colours.
They have a long coat that is thick, dense, rough and profuse.
The Chow Shepherd dogs are very active and lively. They are very intelligent dogs who are keen to learn new things. They are very protective of their family and if not properly socialized, may become territorial. They are wary and suspicious of strangers and will bark to alert the family of an unfamiliar guest. These dogs may not be suitable for families with small children unless the dog is socialized from puppyhood. They are obedient dogs who would make excellent watch/guard dogs and great family pets with proper training.
Supervision is must when these dogs are interacting with children. Their coat requires normal grooming and brushing.
The Chow Shepherd dogs are eager to learn new things and are easy to train. They may not respond as much to firm training as to gentle and reward based training.
They are high energy dogs and would need lots of exercise to relieve their excess energy.
