COLOR
The German Spitz Medium comes in different colours. It can be found in black, white, brown, orange and wolf-grey colouring.

COAT
This breed has a long, dense and thick double coat with top coat being straight and standoff while the undercoat is short, dense and cotton-wool-like in nature. The coat is shorter on head, ears, front side of front and hind legs.

PERSONALITY
Happy, alert, loving and affectionate, the German Spitz are very friendly with their family. Though they get along well with older children, supervision is must when these dogs are around small children as they have a tendency to be over whelming and nervous around them. The dog loves attention and is very human oriented. Eager to please its master, it can perform simple tricks to get attention and praise from the owner and family. Alert to their surroundings, the dog is suspicious of strangers thus making an excellent watchdog though it will need training not to bark constantly. This breed may not tolerate other dogs and specially of the same sex and needs training and socialization from puppyhood. These dogs have been used on farms for farm works and has lots of energy so exercising becomes that more important for this breed. The German Spitz Medium dogs make excellent companion dogs for elderly as well with their affectionate and loving nature. It is a great family as well as excellent watchdog.

CARE
This breed will require fair amount of grooming with its long coat that tends to mat easily. Regular brushing of both top and under coat every other day will avoid matting. This dog will need bathing once every month.

TRAINING
The German Spitz Medium can be trained in a positive and firm yet gentle manner. The dog will respond to its owner or trainer if the trainer shows proper leadership skills and make the dog realize that he is the boss. Without proper leadership skills, the dog will become willful and consequently hard to train.

ACTIVITY
As a working dog that has been used to working in the farms, the German Spitz Medium will require fair amount of exercises to be healthy and happy. The dog will be happy to live in an apartment as long as the exercise needs are met. It is a versatile breed that can be happy with a short and regular walk daily or can be an excellent jogging partner, matching its owner in exercise. A small yard will be perfect for this dog to play and run as it likes.
