GENERAL
The Hertha Pointer is a large size hunting/pointing dog. This rare dog breed originated in Denmark when a group of Danish soldiers brought back with them an orange-red pointer type bitch, called Hertha when they returned home after a war with Germany. This dog was bred with an English Pointer dog called Sport. The resulting puppies were called Hertha Hounds. Later they were given name of Hertha Pointers and became very popular in Denmark. This high spirited yet very loveable dog stands between 23-26 inches and weighs between 45-64 lbs. It comes with a broad head and medium length muzzle. Chestnut coloured eyes are medium in size. Broad based and hanging ears are set high on the head. The nose is black. Medium length necks comes with a slight dewlap. Strong back, muscular loin, deep chest with well sprung ribs and level topline gives the dog an athletic look. Forelegs are straight and strong. Hind legs are muscular, with stifles and hocks well bent. Medium length tail is slightly tapering to the point. This breed comes in short and fine coat. Colors for this breed are yellow and orange with small white markings on the feet, chest, muzzle and tip of the tail. This breed is NOT recognized by AKC.

The Hertha Pointer comes in yellow-orange colour with small white markings on chest, muzzle, feet and tip of the tail.

This breed has an easy to groom short and fine coat.

PERSONALITY
The Herthat Pointing dog is an excellent hunting dog that is not only highly valued in its country of origin for its hunting skills but is also appreciated for its loveable deportmen. As a Pointing dog, the Hertha pointer displays dedication and athleticism to whatever task is given to it. Hertha Pointer dogs exude grace and nobility, and combine their powerful physical prowess with courage, intelligence and desire. As a family companion, these dogs are also good family dogs, and they show incredible commitment and loyalty to their families. Even-tempered and well mannered, these breeds of dogs will gladly co-exist with other dogs, cats and children, exemplifying their innate adaptability. Hertha Pointing dogs are rare outside their country of origin.

CARE
Short and fine coat is easy to groom with weekly brushing. The dog will need to be bathed when it gets really dirty. As with all hunting breeds, the Hertha Pointing dog should be checked for ticks and burrs that might have attached to its coat.

TRAINING
Generally, Pointing dogs are very trainable, thanks to their even temperament. Since not much is known about this rare breed, it can be assumed that the dog is not a difficult dog to train.

ACTIVITY
Physical activities are a must for a working dog like Hertha Pointing dogs. Daily walks and ample playing time should be provided to this dog to keep it fit and healthy.
