Husky is a term that describes a type of dog used to pull sledges in northern regions. This type of dogs are faster than other sled pulling dogs. The Husky word originated from the word referring to Arctic People in general, Eskimose, which were called Huskies. This word Husky is popularly used to all manner of snow dogs or northern breeds as they are also known. The Husky dogs are described as ever changing breed due to constant cross breeding to enhance working capabilities. There are many Husky type breeds which are popular among people not only for their speed, endurance and stamina in the harsh arctic regions, but also for their good temperament as home pets.
Since the word Husky refers to a type of dog and not to a specific breed of dog, the colour can be different for different dog breeds.
The Husky type dogs usually have a thick double coat.
The Husky dogs are energetic and athletic dogs. They are ideal for sled racing in snow. They were also used to hunt large game and as village guardians in the northern regions. The dogs are now gaining popularity as home pets due to their even and calm temperament and excellent guarding instincts.
The double coat needs regular grooming once or twice a week.
The Husky type dogs are intelligent and trainable but need a firm and experienced owner who displays true alpha leader skills.
As a working dog and highly energetic breed, the Husky type dogs need lots of physical stimulation.
