The Jack Russell Terrier is a pure breed dog named after the clergyman Rev. John Russell. Bred as a hunting dog, the dogs needed to be long-legged enough to keep up with the hounds. However, as working dogs, they need a more challenging job to burn off energy. Owners of Jacks need to be confident pack leaders as this breed tends to take over their pack if not trained well.
This breed's colors are usually dominated by white with markings of tan, black or brown.
The Jack's coat is smooth in nature. Usually short, it provides protection from other elements and undergrowth.
The Jack Russell Terrier is a loving, cheerful, loyal and happy dog. They are spirited and obedient but they are brave as well. A well-balanced Jack Russell Terrier is friendly and gentle with kids. Kids should also be extra gentle with the Jacks.
