The Japug is a cross between a purebred Japanese Chin and a purebred Pug. They are called hybrid dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds. The Japug dogs are small in size with a maximum height of 14 inches and can weigh any where between 8 to 20 pounds. These dogs resemble more to a Pug in their facial features and body but have characteristics of both parent breeds.
The Japug is found in limited colours that their parent breeds sport. These colours are black, black and tan, silver and white and any mix of these colours.
Their coat is fine, smooth, glossy and short and requires minimum grooming and brushing every 3-4 days.
The Japug dogs are friendly, loving and docile in their nature. They are very good with all family members and specially children. These hybrids love to play with children and make good playmates for them. They can also get along well with other dogs and pets in the family. The Japug dogs are strongly built and like to be with their family. They are very family oriented and alert to their surroundings, making very good and alert watch dogs. These dogs are not noisy and will only bark to alert the family of an approaching stranger. The Japug dogs are very affectionate and active dogs that make very good family and companion dogs as well as good watch dogs.
Their coat requires brushing every 2-3 days. Bathe these dogs when necessary and dry them so as not to catch cold. These dogs may be sensitive to very hot or very cold weather and should be kept at a comfortable temperature.
The Japug dogs are easy to train but may show strong-will and stubborn behavior. They would best be trained with firm and consistent training that is rewarding.
The Japug dogs are active and lively and they will need moderate level of exercise. They may be prone to over-heating and should not be made to work very hard.
