BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Labany is often smaller in size than a Labrador, and coats will take after either breed. Sweet and sensitive, they will not thrive in very strict training programs. They are great with children, and will fit easily into an active owner?s lifestyle, as they need vigorous activity at least once a day.

COLOR
The Labany can either show a Labrador?s solid coat, with white tufts, or show the liver/orange and white combination of their Brittany parent.

COAT
The coat will be dense, and if the Labrador?s coat is inherited, there will be an overcoat and an undercoat. The fur is usually short, either straight or wavy in appearance.

PERSONALITY
The Labany seeks to please, and thrives on its owners? approval. Conversely, it is sensitive to disapproval or harsh words. If not exposed to other dogs from an early age, the Labany has a tendency to be timid, so socialization at an early age is recommended. A well-brought up Labany has a gentle and affectionate disposition, which is why they are considered ideal companions for children.

CARE
A single coat will have minimal shedding, and maintenance is usually low. A double coat will require once a week brushing. Bathing should not be regular, as this will dry out the coat and skin. Bathe only as necessary, but long ears should be a focal point, as they can hide infections from water trapped inside the ear canal.

TRAINING
The Labany will respond well to gentle training, with repeated commands and lots of praise from the owner. They are intelligent and naturally eager to please, and do not need a strict hand.

ACTIVITY
The Labany will enjoy at least an hour of vigorous activity once a day. A leashed walk --- better yet, a run --- is recommended, or a large, fenced yard where they can expend their hunter?s energy.
