BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Labmaraner, in general, is a lively breed that can be a handful for an inexperienced or lax owner. Properly trained and socialized however they are greatly affectionate, loyal dogs that can not only provide companionship but also guard the home well.

COLOR
Labmaraners can inherit the Labrador's solid of black, brown and yellow, or the Weimaraner's distinctive gray coat, that ranges in shade from dull gray to silver gray (in fact, the parent breed is commonly known as the "Grey Ghost"). Another singular Weimaranertrait would be solid gray, bluish-gray or amber eyes.

COAT
A single coat would be short, glossy, and flat and close along the skin. A coat with longer hair is rare.

PERSONALITY
Labmaraners love to feel that they are part of the "pack" and so are good for active owners fond of long walks or runs and older children who can teach and play tricks. However, their athletic nature and high energy level merits careful watching around younger children that might get knocked over.

CARE
The Labmaraner's short coat needs little maintenance. Brushing once every other week will suffice. However, as this is an active breed, dry-shampooing might need for a muddy coat. Use only mild soap when necessary.

TRAINING
Crate training is recommended when the breed is young. Assertive, calm, firm training is recommended to minimize the breed's tendency to be overly energetic and the urge to be alpha of the pack. Over-dependency on owners and separation anxiety can lead to antics around the house and jumping, that might result in damage; early training, and keep small chewable items out of reach is recommended.

ACTIVITY
Labmaraners are athletic animals that will appreciate high energy-level activities daily. Leashes are not generally necessary; Labmaraners love to be near or touch their owners, even when outdoors. The breed is prone to bloat. Any activity undertaken should at least be before or after feedings. Meals should be spread out through the day, instead of one or two big meals.
