The Mini English Cocker is a mix between a purebred Dachshund and a purebred English Cocker Spaniel. They are called hybrid dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds. These dogs are small to medium in size. They are loyal, devoted and friendly to their family but standoffish to strangers. They are good with children and other dogs but should be socialized with them specially with small animals. These dogs are human loving and do not like to be left alone. They are alert and some can be noisy too. These dogs need moderate levels of exercise. They are good watch dogs.
The Mini English Cocker dogs are found in different parent breed colors. They are found in black, black and tan, brown and red or any mix of these colors.
Their coat can be short, or fine and wiry. The differences of the coat of the parent breeds make the quality of its coat unpredictable. It may be short and sleek or long coming from the Dachshund and the English Cocker Spaniel respectively.
The Mini English Cocker dogs are a mix of two breeds that are known for their stubborn behavior. These hybrids are also stubborn; some less, some more. These dogs are friendly, loyal and devoted to their family. They are good with children provided the children behave gently with these dogs and these dogs are well trained. They do not have much tolerance to rough handling and may retaliate with biting. These dogs are intelligent but wary of strangers. They make good watch dogs. They do not like to be alone for long time and will whine until they get a companion. The Mini English Cocker dogs have a tendency to chase after small animals and they should be leashed when outside. They need moderate level of physical activity to be in shape and content. These dogs make very good family pets if they are trained from puppyhood.
Brushing, wiping with a damp cloth or a professional grooming are the things you can do for this pet depending of the quality of the coat it possess. They should be supervised when playing with small children as they have a tendency to be aggressive if rough handled.
They are not easy dogs to train. Both parent breeds are stubborn to some extent and the hybrid is no different. These dogs will need a firm and patient trainer to train them with firm and consistent training which can be reward based. This hybrid has the tendency to be trained with difficulty if the trainer does not possess a natural flavor of authority in him/her. The trainer must be strong-minded and decisive or else if they can sense that they are not, they will not follow them. However, you need to be careful also because too harsh will not also do them good.
They like to play outside. They can be good jogging partners if properly trained not to run after small animals. Long daily walks are necessary for these dogs. Although this breed may live in a little space with no yard, this still need to explore and venture what is outside through daily walks in order to satisfy its nature or else personality problems may occur.
