The Miniature Australian Bulldog is the smaller version of Australian Bulldog with same characteristics and appearance except in a smaller body. This breed is still in its development phase and the MAB is still rare. It is a loving, friendly and lively dog with a pleasant personality and outgoing nature. This new breed is being developed by Mrs. Pip Nobes and Mrs. Lee-ann Milton with the aim to create a healthier and compact Australian Bulldog. During this creation, full size Australian Bulldog was crossed with Pug and Bouledogue Français. Boston Terriers and Staffordshire terriers were also considered as possible cross-mats of Australian Bulldog but that idea was dropped due to temperament issue of both breeds. The MAB is a hardy and compact and solidly built dog that stands up to 14 inches or smaller. Weight is in proportion to the body and is usually in the range of 25-35 lbs. The dog has strong and square head with a wide muzzle that has one to three folds of skin across big nose. Eyes are set wide apart. It has an arched neck, deep and broad chest and level, strong back. The tail is either long or screw. The dog comes in a short and smooth coat with coloring of different shades like fawn, apricot, orange, red white, piebald, silver and other coloring. Since this newish breed is still in its developing phase, it is NOT recognized by AKC or any other major kennel club.
This dog comes in varying shades of different wonderful colors that include all brindles, reds, fawns, whites, solid or pied mixes of these colors.
The coat is short and smooth. It is neither rough nor thick and is easy to maintain.
The MAB is a loving, friendly and affectionate breed just like its bigger version the Australian Bulldog. This compact and powerful dog is very intelligent and playful, making a great home companion. This fierce looking dog is actually very gentle, loyal and human oriented. It is non-aggressive and easy going breed that loves to play and swim. It makes a trustworthy playmate of children and enjoys playing with them. This human oriented dog loves to receive attention of its family and strives to please them. This dog has an even and sound temperament that makes it an excellent companion for the whole family The MAB can be a very good watchdog due to its alert nature but due to its size, it can not be a guard dog though its appearance is a natural deterrent. This bright and intelligent dog is easy to train but it can choose when to listen to its trainer, thus needs a firm and confident owner who displays himself as this dogs' true packleader. This playful breed is very energetic also and needs lots of play and activities that will test its stamina and provide mental stimulation. The MAB is a worthy family companion.
Short and smooth coat of this breed does not require lots of grooming. The coat will be in top condition with once or twice a weekly brushing and occasional bathing.
Though intelligent and bright, the MABs can be stubborn when it comes to training. These dogs will choose when to listen and when to ignore trainer. However, if there is a treat in it for them they will obey every time. Positive reinforcement training methods as well as a firm and stable trainer is needed for this otherwise easy to train dog.
The MAB resembles its larger version and brethren, the Australian Bulldog in most characteristics except in one. The MAB is much more energetic and lively than the laid back Australian Bulldog. This dog will need ample playing time in a large open and secure space to let off its excessive energy. This playful dog loves to play games like Frisbee and flyball with its human family.
