The Miniature Golden Retriever is a unique mix of a purebred Golden Retriever, a purebred Poodle and a purebred Cocker Spaniel. These hybrids are small to medium in size with an average height of 14 to 20 inches and weight around 20-50 pounds depending on which Poodle breed is used, Toy, Miniature or Standard. These dogs are loving, kind, gentle, affectionate and very intelligent. They are social dogs that greet every visitor; familiar or unfamiliar. This makes them poor watch dogs but they are very good family pets. They are beautiful and graceful dogs that are loving and affectionate to the whole family.
These dogs are found in different colors like black, brown, black and tan, white, yellow, golden light and golden dark or any mix of these colors.
Their coat is dense and smooth or slightly wavy from top and soft from inner side. It requires normal grooming and brushing.
The Miniature Golden Retrievers are excellent family pets. They are loving to all family members. These dogs are docile, social and extremely intelligent. Infact, the two out of three parent breeds, the Poodle and the Golden Retriever, rank among first three most intelligent dogs in the world. They can learn and perform different tricks. These dogs are very good with children. They make fine play mates for the children and behave in a gentle and patient manner. They will need early socialization with other dogs and specially cats and non-canine pets as an untrained dog may pose threat to cats and birds. The Miniature Golden Retrievers are high energy and lively dogs and need to be taken for daily walks as well as for running and play. Although they can fit into a small house, they ideally like to be in a house with a yard so that they can freely play and indulge in other physical activities that are important to keep these dogs happy.
The Miniature Golden Retrievers have a tendency to hunt small animals like birds and early training is a must to make them friendly with other pets in the house.
These dogs are extremely intelligent and will learn fast. They can learn to perform tricks; from simple to more complex ones. They are very easy and a joy to train dogs.
Their high energy levels require lots of physical activities to relieve excess energy. These dogs will need daily long walks or preferably, jogs and other playing activities. They can also take part in different dog sports that require physical as well as mental involvement.
