BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Miniature Schnauzzie is a mix between a Miniature Schnauzer and an Miniature Australian Shepherd purebreds. They are called hybrid dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds. The Miniature Schnauzzie dogs are small in size with a maximum height of 18 inches and weight of 15 to 30 pounds. They are docile, affable and gentle dogs with high energy. They are alert and attentive to their surroundings and make good watch dogs. They are found in different colours. They may show tendency to try and herd people that needs to be checked at an early age. With proper training and necessary socialization, they are good family pets to have.

COLOR
The Miniature Schnauzzie dogs are found in different colours of their parent breeds. Common colours for these hybrids are blue, black, red, black and silver or any mix of these colours.

COAT
Their coat can be wiry and harsh if it is clipped and when left unclipped, it will be soft and curly.

PERSONALITY
The Miniature Schnauzzie dogs are friendly, intelligent, alert, spirited, willing to please and kind. They may need some obedience training and early age socialization which will make them suitable for most environments. These dogs are good with children and make very good playmates but they do have a tendency to try to herd people and specially children by nipping at their heels. This can be curbed with puppyhood training to make them suitable for all family members. These dogs are human loving and family oriented. They bond strongly with one or more members of the family and will need to be in constant interaction with their family. These hybrids are full of energy and will need lots of activities that involve both physical and mental exercise. They will be best suited for an active family life style. They are wary of strangers and alert to their surroundings thus qualify to be good watch dogs.

CARE
Play with children should be supervised as they may not hurt small children due to their herding instinct. Their coat needs moderate grooming and regular brushing.

TRAINING
Their eager to please nature and intelligence makes them easy to train dogs although these dogs may need firm and consistent training with a trainer who is ready to work hard and with authority. They are easy to train with proper training techniques.

ACTIVITY
These dogs are full of energy and need playing activities besides walking to relieve their energy. If their need for regular exercise is not fulfilled, they will become destructive.
