The Miniature Schnoxie is a cross between a purebred Dachshund and a purebred Miniature Schnauzer. They are called hybrid dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds. They are small size dogs with an average height of 14-18 inches and weight between 20-30 pounds. They are friendly, loving, loyal and devoted yet occasionally willful dogs that make good family pets for all family. They are alert and attentive as well as wary of strangers and make good watch dogs. They are found in different colours and their coat resembles that of a Schnauzer.
The Miniature Schnoxies are found in different parent breed colours. Common colours for these dogs are black, black and tan, brown, red, silver and white or any mix of these colours.
These hybrids can have a variety of coats due to different types of coats in the parent breeds specially Dachshund which exhibit three coat types. They can have a Schnauzer type coat that is wiry from top and soft from inner side. They can take after one of the three Dachshund coat types that include short and smooth coat or long coat or wire-haired coat. Grooming necessities differ for different coat types.
The Miniature Schnoxie dogs are loyal, docile, alert, devoted and sometimes stubborn. They are playful and eager to please dogs that need early socialization with other dogs and pets specially birds and other small animals to cut down their propensity for chasing them. These dogs are gentle and patient with children if children are taught not to tease or mishandle these dogs. They are alert dogs that are suspicious of strangers and will bark to alert the family of an approaching stranger. They make good watch dogs. These dogs have a tendency to be noisy but early age training can cut down on this behavior. The Miniature Schnoxie dogs are high energy dogs and will become anxious if proper exercise is not provided to them. They make good watch dogs as well as pet dogs.
These dogs have an instinct to chase after small animals, birds, balls or any thing that moves fast so they should be leashed when outside. Their coat grooming needs will vary with less shedding coats requiring more grooming and short hair or average shedding coats requiring less grooming.
These dogs, though obedient and eager to please, can also have stubborn and willful attitude and may be difficult to train. They may need a trainer with a firm hand to train them.
The Miniature Schnoxie dogs have high energy and will need fair amount of exercise. A daily walk and playing time should take care of their exercise needs.
