The Olde Victorian Bulldogge is a new dog breed that is still in development phase. It originated in United States of America. The OVB, as it is commonly called, is a large and powerful dog with a heavy built torso and chest. It is being developed with aim to create a healthier bulldog breed. This breeding program was started by Carlos Woods in 1988 and he crossbred English Bulldog, American Bulldog, German Boxer, Staffy Bull and Olde Bulldogge to produce this large headed and muscular breed. This strong dog stands between 18-20 inches and weighs 65-100 lbs. The broad and large head has broad muzzle. Skull should be as great in circumference as possible. Moderate size eyes are set low and wide apart. Small ears are rose or button shaped. Large and broad, moist nose is preferred in black but can be partly coloured. Thick, strong and arched but short neck has loose skin that forms dewlaps on each side. The bulldogge should have a broad and deep body that should come with deep and wide chest and well sprung ribs and powerful loin with slight tuck-up. The tail can be straight, turning down or screwed. The OVB has short, smooth and silky but not thin coat that comes in brindle/white, all other brindle including black/brindle. Solid white or pied, Fawn or Tan. Solid black, blue, & blue brindle. This breed is NOT recognized by AKC or any other major kennel club.
Many color variations are common and acceptable for this breed, such as white, fawn, tan, brindle, and black brindle; all of these colors can have white mixed in.
The OVB has a short and sleek coat that is easy to maintain.
The Olde Victorian Bulldogge is a loyal and stable dog with a loving nature. Playful, gentle and intelligent, the dog is a wonderful family pet. Gentle and playful with children, the dog is equally well behaved with elderly. It bonds strongly with its family and thrives on getting attention. It gets along well with other dogs and pets specially if raised with them from puppyhood. With their affectionate trait comes the inherent protective nature which makes this dog a good guardian of the family. Typical of bulldogs, it can sometimes be stubborn and willful and as such, obedience training becomes all the more important from early age. The OVB is a brave and courageous dog that is not intimidated easily. The dog is always ready to protect its family from any potential threat and can go to any lengths in doing its job.
The coat of OVB is short and sleek that requires minimal grooming. It will be clean and in top condition with occasional brushing about once per week. Face should be cleaned regularly with a damp cloth to remove dirt, food particles and debris that may get deposited in their wrinkles. Due to their unique body construction, OVB puppies should not be subjected to heavy exercise.
By nature, the OVB is a sweet natured dog but this breed does have a tendency to be stubborn sometimes. As such, this dog will need a natural leader who can win this dog's confidence and respect to tame it. Once tamed, the dog will be easier to train.
The OVB is not a particularly active dog, in fact, it is more of a laid back dog that will enjoy watching T.V lying on the couch, rather than going out and playing. Nevertheless, the dog should be taken on daily walks and provided fair amount of exercise. For its relatively inactive nature, the dog is suitable for apartment living and does not necessarily require a yard to play.
