BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Pakistani Vikhan Dog is also known as Vikhan Sheepdog, Chitral Watchdog or simply Vikhan. It comes from Chitral region of Pakistan. This dog is used as livestock herding and protection dog. For its speed, agility and fierce temperament, this dog is also used as an able Leopard hunter. This large molosser type dog stands around 26 inches with a lean body that is built for speed rather than strength. The rich coat comes in solid shades of black, brown, red and fawn, but multi-coloured and spotted dogs are quite common. This is a relatively unknown dog breed and very little information is available for this dog. It is NOT recognized by AKC or any other major kennel club.

COLOR
The Vikhan Dog comes in different colours which include solid shades of black, brown, red and fawn. Multi-coloured and spotted Vikhan dogs are common too.

PERSONALITY

Related to other Molossers of the region, the Vikhan is often described as a "giant Rough Collie", due to its profuse coat, which is used as a wool substitute in Pakistan.

ACTIVITY
