The Peek-A-Pom, also known as Pominese, is a hybrid breed from the Pomeranian and the Pekingese breeds. Their appearance may vary as they will definitely inherit characteristics from both their parents. Very courageous, affectionate and loyal in nature that they sometimes forget their size. Although they are not very suitable with very small children, they are perfect for apartment living as they do not require much exercise.
This breed's color may vary from the shades of fawns, reds, sables and even black and tan coloration with sometimes white markings.
The coat of the Peek-A-Pom breed has an outer and under coat. The outer coat is long and profuse while the undercoat is short and dense. The short hair across the muzzle area and on the lower jaw is often in the shades of light cream to white. Being a hybrid dog, they may either have the coat of the Pekingese breed, longer and silkier, or the slightly coarser, more dense coat of the Pomeranian breed.
The Peek-A-Pom dog breed are very affectionate, brave and loyal. They need company most of the time as they tend to become lonely and bored when left alone. This usually leads to either a destructive behavior or incessant barking. Not very suitable for very young children as they are too energetic and very fragile as puppies.
This breed's coat may require a considerable amount of grooming. The length and texture of their coat will determine the required amount of grooming. Dry shampooing should be enough although bathing can be done if needed. They are light shedders but they tend to develop dandruff. To avoid tooth loss, dental hygiene for this breed should always be kept.
The Peek-A-Pom should have socialization and obedience early in life to avoid them from becoming territorial and possessive. Training should always be with firmness, fairness, patience, and consistency as they tend to be willful and stubborn. The trainer should be patient and consistent as well. They are very smart for a little dog that they have the tendency to try and be the pack leader.
Perfectly suited for condo/apartment living, this breed enjoys the indoors. They usually seek attention from their owners. They also tend to become depressed and discontent if left outdoors for a longer amount of time.
