The Pekehund breed is a cross from the Dachshund and the Pekingese breeds. This breed is a great family dog suited perfectly from senior persons with less activity to a family who plays nonstop. They can also get along nicely with other pets of the family. This breed is a very happy, sweet, loving, protective, intelligent and fun loving dogs but they do not like strangers.
The Pekehund's coat color can vary from a range of colors. These colors include red/black/white accents, creamish tan or black/tan.
The Pekehund's soft to the touch coat can appear to be short or long that would look like that of a Dachshund. This breed sheds from low to average.
The Pekehund breed is a very happy, sweet, loving, protective, intelligent and fun loving dog. They enjoy snuggling and sleeping on their owner's lap. The breed makes a great companion for people of all ages. They are wonderful around kids. However, as the Dachshund line were bred for hunting small burrowing animals, they may not approve of another animal in the family other than another dog. This breed does not bark very much but they might howl. However, they will surely bark at strangers and visitors. They also tend to growl while playing and their bark will sound like it's from a big dog.
The Pekehund breed are pretty easy to groom but should be bathed regularly while keeping their nails short. They also love to eat so their diet should be carefully watched to avoid over feeding. They tend to eat until they can't eat anymore.
As very intelligent dogs, learning new tricks are challenging and enjoyable for them. Training, especially obedience, are recommended to be done earlier in life as their parents/ancestors are both stubborn in nature.
The breed enjoys their daily walks and sniffing around outside although they would still be fine in apartments or small living spaces. They do not require too much exercise as they tire easily even if they are very energetic dogs. It is a small dog but they like climbing.
