BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Plica dog breed is not a pure breed dog. It is called hybrid or designer breeds because this breed is developed from the Ori-Pei and the Basset Hound dog breeds. The Ori-Pei, on the other hand, is another hybrid which is a cross of the Chinese Shar-Pei and the Pug breeds. They are loyal, sweet and gentle in nature. They get along great with kids and house pets which makes them wonderful as family pets. They are very easy to groom since they are short coated dogs but their face needs to be wiped clean everyday to avoid skin issues.

COLOR
This breed's colors vary depending on their parents but usually they can be black, white, brown, gray, tan, red, white with chestnuts or with sand color.

COAT
The Plica breed needs to be combed and brushed with a firm bristle brush, and shampoo only when necessary. This breed is a constant shedder.

PERSONALITY
This breed is a sweet, loyal and gentle. This dog is great with kids and other house pets which makes this dog suitable as a family dog. They tend to take over as pack leaders so make sure this is corrected before it escalates to behavioral issues.

CARE
These dogs are pretty easy to groom with their smooth, short-haired coat. Wipe under the ears every week and trim toenails regularly. Bathe only when necessary. Grooming should include wiping under the ears every week and trim their nails regularly. Avoid over feeding these dogs as they tend to bloat. It will be most advisable to feed them two or three small meals a day. Take the Plicas in on regular basis for check-ups to ensure that they did not inherit health issues from their predecessors.

TRAINING
The Plica breed is very smart dogs making them easy to train. They enjoy doing tricks for food. Housebreaking could be challenge, but with positive reinforcement, patience and gentle training, it shouldn't be a problem. Humans around them should have strong leadership skills to ensure they do not take over as pack leader as it could develop behavioral problems in the future.

ACTIVITY
The breed needs their regular daily exercise. Play will also suffice to burn off exercise energy but make sure that they are in a safe and secure are. They don't need too much exercise but their primal instinct to walk should be satisfied.
