BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Pom-A-Pug breed is not a pure breed dog. Sometimes called hybrid or designer breeds, the dogs were developed from half Pomeranian and half Pug breeds. Other names they are called are Pug-A-Pom, Pomapug, Pugapom, Pugpom, Pug-Pom, Pompug, Pom-Pug and Pugeranian. This dog is very protective, loving and playful. It is a great family dog as they get along well with kids as well as other house pets. They may not bark often but they are wonderful watchdogs even if they are small in size. They tend to over eat and this could lead to health issues if not controlled. For their small size and smooth coated hair, these dogs are pretty easy to groom. Bathe only when it is necessary.

COLOR
The Pom-A-Pugs can come in black, fawn or tan colors.

COAT
The breed's coat, being a cross bred dog, greatly depends on their parents. It can be medium in length and smooth, short and smooth, short and semi-coarse OR medium in length and semi-coarse. These dogs are an average to little shedders.

PERSONALITY
These dogs are very loving, protective, playful yet relaxed and laid back dog. They make wonderful family dog as they are great with kids and other animals as well. Relatively calm and friendly dog but they have high-pitched bark. Although they do not bark often, they make great watchdogs even with their small size.

CARE
With the Pom-A-Pug's small size, they are pretty low maintenance and very easy to groom. Bathe and dry-shampoo these dogs only when necessary. Avoid water to go into their ears by plugging it with cotton balls. This breed tends to over eat and become overweight. This can lead to health issues in the future if they are overlooked. They may also suffer from seasonal allergies. They have short muzzles like their Pug predecessor but lesser respiratory issues. Although they should still be checked for respiratory issues to ensure they do not inherit the problem. During the fall or the winter, the Pom-A-Pugs could suffer from dry skin. They prefer the warmer climate but does not enjoy the extremely hot or cold weathers. They will appreciate that they are kept cool during the hot weather and kept warm during the cold.

TRAINING
These dogs should be fairly easy to train with a firm, persistent, patient and consistent handler as they love pleasing their humans. Remember to avoid having these dogs develop the Small Dog Syndrome where the dog thinks that they are the ruler of the house. This only happens when the humans around them allows it to happen. Correct this as early as possible to keep behavioral issues to escalate further.

ACTIVITY
The Pom-A-Pug enjoys running around the family yard or a dog park but they can be lazy sometimes as well. Just make sure that the yard is securely fenced. These dogs are very suitable for apartment living for it's size. They can be active indoors and this should be enough to drain their energy but they need to satisfy their primal instinct to walk.
