BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Pom-Shi breed of dogs is a hybrid or designer breed. They are developed from half Shiba Inu and half Pomeranian breeds. They are also known as the Shi Pom breed. These dogs are highly trainable for their intelligence, eagerness to work, learn and please their owners. They are confident and highly active. They are perfect watchdogs for their loyalty. Make sure also that they are provided proper leadership to ensure they are happy, content and well-balanced dogs. They can do well in apartment living as long as they are taken to their everyday long walks.

COLOR
These dogs can come in a variety of colors but mostly it will greatly depend on their parent's color. Most popular colors of their predecessors are Red, Cream, Black, Brown, Tan, Orange, Gray, Blue and White. Since the Pom-Shis are cross breed dogs, they can also have a spotted pattern called Parti as a combination of the colors mentioned above.

COAT
This dog's coat should be brushed only as needed. Ensuring it is tangle free. This breed is a heavy shedder.

PERSONALITY
This dog is active, confident and highly intelligent. They are very loyal to their family and courageous which makes them great watchdogs. Early socialization with other dogs will also prove to be beneficial. Playful and delightful, if they are stable and balanced will do well with kids making them suitable as a family dog. Do not allow these dogs to develop the Small Dog Syndrome where they feel that they need to rule the house. When this happens, it should be corrected as early as possible to avoid it from escalating to behavioral issues.

CARE
This dog needs grooming depending on the length of coat they have inherited from their predecessors. Bathe and dry-shampoo only when it is necessary. Clean their eyes and ears daily and schedule them for regular dental check-ups.

TRAINING
These dogs need a persistent, consistent and calm handler who will provide them proper leadership to be able to be a success in basic obedience. They tend to be stubborn but positive reinforcement in training should be enough to make it successful. The Pom-Shi breed is highly intelligent and enjoys pleasing their owners. Learning tricks should not be too difficult.

ACTIVITY
The Pom-Shis need to be exercised and active enough to drain excess energy. Play should be enough to consume their energy but, as dogs, they still need to satisfy their primal instinct to walk. These dogs need long walks or jogs as it has enormous endurance. This dog should be fine with apartment or small space living if they are provided enough exercise.
