The Prazsky Krysavik is also known as Prazsky Krysarik or Prague Ratter. It is a small dog breed that originated in Czech Republic and is considered "the smallest dog" by height measurements. Its maximum height is two cm less than minimum height of miniature Pinscher. Used as rat catchers since old times, the breed was developed as a companion dog. The breed was popular in central European royal palaces in the Middle Ages. It was already an established breed by the time of the rule of the Polish king Boles'aw II the Generous (1058-1081). It is present in low numbers with only 2500 specimen registered under this breed. It comes with a fragile looking body that has a broad but not deep chest and moderately long and narrow neck that supports its delicate head. The dog's coat consists of short, glossy hair and the most common color is black and tan, which is also the original color. Lately, other colors have been approved: Brown and tan, Blue and tan, Lila and tan, Yellow, Red and Merle. This breed is NOT recognized by AKC or any other major kennel club.
Common and original color of this breed is black and tan but few colors have been added which are brown and tan, blue and tan, tan, yellow, red and merle.
The Prazsky Krysavik or Prague Ratter has a short, smooth and glossy coat that is easy to maintain.
Bred to be a companion, the Prague Ratter is a lively, active and spunky dog with lots of character. It is obedient, loyal and loving dog that forms strong bond with its family and thrive on dependable relationship. Intelligent and smart, it will pick up basic training and commands quickly. This dog would make a quiet lapdog that is not yappy. A social and warm-hearted dog, the Prague is equally excellent with children and gets along with them quite well. For its small body and briskness, this dog makes a valuable ratter that will keep the house rat-free, sniffing out and killing any rats with its well developed scenting abilities. The Prague Ratter makes an excellent family and companion dog for all families.
Occasional brushing will be enough to keep the coat clean and free from dead hair. Due to its small size, the owner should not allow the dog to develop small dog syndrome which can make this dog stubborn and willful.
This is a highly intelligent breed that is easy to train with its eager to please and docile nature. It is not a difficult breed to train.
Though small in size, this dog can live in an apartment without much trouble but it will equally love to be outdoors. This breed will appreciate being taken on long walks and playing games such as flyball etc.
