BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Roman Rottweiler can be described as an over-sized Rottweiler. It was developed by one Emily Tiscarenio from Tibetan Mastiff and possibly Italian Mastiff. Look-wise, the Roman Rottweilers are same as traditional Rottweilers. Difference between the two breeds is in temperament and more mastiff like/flock guardian type in appearance. It comes with a large and broad head with wrinkling, broad skull, full and deep muzzle and wide black or self coloured nose. Dark, almond shaped eyes are well set apart. Pendant shape ears are set well apart. The dog comes with a powerful neck, broad and deep chest with well sprung rounded ribs and docked or natural tail. Coat is thick and ranges from smooth to plush. Thick plush coat is desired for a Rottie working as a flock guardian. The coat color is black/tan, black/rust, black/dark rust, black/mahogany and can also come in red/tan, blue/tan or black. This breed is NOT recognized by AKC.

PERSONALITY
The Roman Rottweiler is good-natured, placid in basic disposition, very devoted, obedient, biddable and eager to work. The dog has stable and even temperament. With their higher levels of intelligence, these dogs have been successfully used in police, military and custom works. As a family companion, this devoted and affectionate dog makes a great house pet. Early age socialization is imperative for this breed to make it all round family pet. A properly trained Roman Rottweiler will be very gentle and playful with children and caring for the elderly. This breed is protective by nature and will make an excellent watch and guard dog that will protect its family from any threat. It can get along with other dogs and pets if socialized well. An untrained Roman Rottweiler dog is likely to be aggressive towards other dogs. It needs an experienced and firm owner who can establish himself as this dog's true packleader. With proper socialization and training, the Roman Rottweiler will become a very sweet and loving family pet.

CARE
This breed is very easy to take care of with its short coat. A weekly brushing will ensure dead hair are removed and coat remains in top condition.

TRAINING
A firm and confident trainer will be needed to train this dog. Training is of utmost importance when the dog is still in its puppyhood.

ACTIVITY
The Roman Rottweiler needs plenty of exercise. No amount of work is too much for them; they thrive on it. They need to be taken on a daily walk or jog. Running in the woods and in open country makes them very happy and they have no desire to wander from the master. Swimming or running beside a bicycle are perfect activities for this dog and it also loves retrieving a ball.
