BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Small Munsterlander is a German breed of gundog which is known for its exceptional hunting, pointing and retrieving skills. The Small Munsterlander descended from Long coated German Spaniels. It is a medium size dog with height and weight of 20-22 inches and 35 lbs respectively. The dog comes with a lean yet powerful, elegant and balanced body. The medium length, glossy coat comes in solid or ticked white colour with large patches of brown. There is a larger version of this breed which is known as Large Munsterlander. Both these breeds are not recognized by AKC however they are recognized by other kennel clubs like FCI, UKC, KC(UK) as gundog breed.

COLOR
The Small Munsterlander is found in Brown and white, Brown roan, Brown mantle, Brown ticked, White blaze and tail tip acceptable. Tan points on cheeks, above eyes and around anus acceptable.

COAT
The Small Munsterlander's coat is dense, flat lying, straight or slightly wavy. Water, weather and thorn proof. Nicely feathered on ears, front legs, back legs down to hocks and tail.

PERSONALITY
The Small Munsterlander can be described as intelligent, trainable, attentive and a little stubborn. They have a very strong drive to follow their keen sense of smell, and thrive with hunting or comparably challenging exercise for an hour or more every day. They love swimming, too. The Small Munsterlander is a happy, affectionate family pet when in the house, while remaining a keenly focused, even driven, hunter-pointer-retriever when in the field. They are not suited to life in a kennel because of their sociable nature and need to interact with people?they need to live in the home of their human family.

CARE
Grooming needs for this breed are not very high. Brushing the coat two to three times a week should keep the coat clean. This energetic breed needs lots of exercise and playing time in open spaces.

TRAINING
The small Munsterlanders are very trainable dogs. They can be trained basic commands rather easily when the dogs are puppies and they respond well to positive training methods.

ACTIVITY
This breed needs lots of physical and mental stimulation. These dogs require large open spaces to run, roam and play. Under exercised Munsterlanders will become destructive.
