BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Vucciriscu is a large molossor dog breed that originated in Sicily, Italy. Though similar to Cane Corso, this breed is smaller and not as heavy and have slightly different facial and head features. This agile and strong dog is capable of great speeds. The name Vucciriscu is derived from the term Vucceria, which means ?butcher shop.? These animals were used as guardians of butchshops, and they retain their remarkable guarding instincts. Presently, this breed is mostly used as watch/guard dogs and flock guardians. This robust and athletic dog stands about 24 inches and comes in short, smooth coat that can be red or brindle. Ears are not cropped but tail is docked. Very little information is available about this very rare breed. This breed is NOT recognized by AKC.

COLOR
Most commonly, these dogs are found in brindle or red colouring with or without black mask and/or white markings.

COAT
This breed has short and smooth coat.

PERSONALITY
The Vucciriscu dog is a large and strong Molossor working breed that has been assigned guardian role ever since its development. Initially used as guard dogs for butcher shops, these dogs have turned into home and flock guardians. Like a typical guard dog, this breed is naturally suspicious of strangers. Though devoted and loyal to its master, the dog is aggressive towards other dogs. Early age socialization and training is very important for this breed. They can be tough for young owners to handle, so they are not recommended for first-time owners. These dogs are mostly used as guardians of the family and seldom as family pet.

CARE
The short coat of this breed is easy to groom and maintain without much fuss. Simple brushing of the coat once weekly should be enough to remove dead hair.

TRAINING
Training is of utmost importance to mold this aggressive breed into an obedient dog. Training should be conducted by an experienced owner in a firm and consistent manner.

ACTIVITY
This dog is relatively inactive preferring to preserve its energy for only the appropriate situations when it reacts swiftly and ferociously. It should be taken for daily walks though.
