BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Welsh Sheepdog is a medium size sheep herding dog that originated in Wales. Thought to be land racer or naturally evolved dogs, they are also known as Welsh Collies due to their excellent herding skills. These dogs are more valued for their herding skills rather than their looks and as such, they differ in size, colour and body conformation. Their coat can be short or long and can come in different colours like black and white, red and white and tricolour. In comparison to Collie, these dogs have longer legs, broader chests and wide muzzle. This breed is NOT recognized by AKC or any other major kennel club.

COLOR
This dog usually comes in black-and-white, red-and-white or tricolour, and merle markings may occur over any of these combinations.

COAT
The coat size range from short to long.

The dog feels comfortable with kids, though it might turn violent at times. Welsh Sheepdogs are protective, courageous, friendly, clever and pleasant. They have an alert expression and an active disposition. They need the companionship of a family or other breed of dogs.
