BREED DETAILS

GENERAL
The Yugoslavian Hounds is considered an indigenous breed found in the southern region of the former Yugoslavia. They come in two varieties: the Yugoslavian Mountain Hound (Jugoslovenski Planinski Gonic or Planinski) and the Yugoslavian Tricolor Hound (Jugoslovenski Trobojni Gonic). These dog breeds are not well known outside their native land. They are medium-sized breeds, having a drop ears and long tails. Several coat types and colors are accepted.

COLOR
The Yugoslavian Mountain Hounds comes in black and tan with tan markings above the eyes. Meanwhile, the Yugoslavian Tricolor Hound comes with fox-red or wheaten-red covering most of the body or with a black saddle. They have white markings on the head (flare), neck (collar), chest, lower legs and tip of the tail.

COAT
The coat of these breeds are short, dense, thick and close fitting.

PERSONALITY
This breed is a hardy, bold, persistent hunter with a very keen sense of smell and is particularly skilled on rough terrain. They are used to hunt hare, fox, deer, and other quarry. However, they are gentle, calm, good-natured and makes a pleasant companion.

CARE
Frequent grooming and brushing maintenance is required for this breed to upkeep their coat. Bathing should be done when necessary.

TRAINING
These breeds are intelligent and is easy to train. For better temperament, early socialization and obedience training is recommended as early as puppyhood or by the time they arrive home.

ACTIVITY
These breeds are energetic, lively, playful and needs to be taken outside moderately. They need average exercises, daily walks or outdoor trips, to tire them out and burn off their energies.
