The Jack Russell Terrier is a pure breed dog named after the clergyman Rev. John Russell. Bred as a hunting dog, the dogs needed to be long-legged enough to keep up with the hounds. They are cheerful, loving, happy, loyal dogs.
The small size of this breed makes them perfect for apartment or small space living. However, as working dogs, they need a more challenging job to burn off energy. Owners of Jacks need to be confident pack leaders as this breed tends to take over their pack if not trained well.
