The Wilmington Area Humane Society is a non-profit organization founded in July 2002. We have a facility where we house our pets and they are cared for daily by a dedicated group of volunteers. We do not have daily open hours, but are very flexible in arranging appointments to see our adoptable pets. We have monthly adoption days on the 3rd Sunday of every month, from 1-3 p.m. All of our pets are spayed/neutered, vet checked, up to date on vaccinations before they are adopted. We are solely funded by memberships and donations from the community. We take in dogs and cats on availability. We are very proud of our success, and hope that you would consider adopting a pet from the Wilmington Area Humane Society. We are always accepting donated pet food, cat litter, cleaning supplies, or old towels or sheets used for bedding. If no one is at the shelter, please leave the items by the back door, or call our toll-free pager at 1-877-802-1633 to arrange a pick-up. For monetary donations, please send them to WAHS INC., P.O. Box 968, Wilmington, Ohio, 45177.
Adoption fees are $100 cash for dogs and $40 cash for cats (we are not set up to accept credit/debit cards). Adoption Fees include the spay/neuter, shots (including rabies), testing (FIV/Feline Leukemia for cats, Heartworm for dogs) and general vet check. If the pet is too young to be spayed/neutered, a $20 voucher will be given when the procedure is done.
There is a pre-adoption survey, and an adoption contract that is signed at the time of the adoption. We do out of state and in state adoptions, but we do not provide transport at this time.
Our facility is located at 5361 U.S. 68 N, Wilmington. We do not have daily open hours at this time, we make appointments with the potential adopter at their convenience. Please call our toll free pager at 1-877-802-1633 if you are interested in adopting a pet and we will call you back ASAP and set up an appointment with you.
We also have monthly adoption days on the 3rd Sunday from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
