The American Bullnese is a small and clownish dog that is known for its love for companionship and ideal temperament as family pet. The dog has a large and square head with large and round eyes. Ears are soft and folded. It has thick neck with loose skin at the throat. The body is low to the ground and is longer than taller. Forelegs are stout and strong while hind legs are firm and shaped. The dog has thick and short coat with dense and soft fur. It can come in any colour. The overall impression is of an active and muscular dog with courage and boldness. This dog weighs around 18-30 pounds and has height from 10 to 12 inches. This breed is not recognized by AKC although ABA and DRA recognize this dog.
This breed is found in many different colours but most common colours and patterns for this dog are black, tan, beige, buff, red, brown, sable, cream, white, silver, brindle and phantom.

The dog is intelligent and eager to please. This makes training this dog easy as the itself is willing. As with all dogs, training should start from early puppyhood. The owners may lure into pampering this dog like it is a human due to its very happy temperament. This could lead to dog believing it is the peck leader. This attitude could lead to dog becoming possessive and showing undesirable behavior.
The dog has moderate levels of energy and it needs a daily walk to be happy and content. Walking this dog will also satisfy a dog's primal need to walk.
