The Coton Tzu is a cross between a purebred Coton De Tulear and a purebred Shih Tzu. They are called hybrid dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds. They are small size dogs with average height and weight of 8-12 inches and 9-16 pounds respectively. These dogs are very playful, loving and happy dogs that like to be around their family members and make good companion dogs.
They are found in white, black and white, white with cream markings, black and white, white, black, brindle, dark and light brown and gold or any mix of these colours.
They have a medium to long coat that is silky and fluffy. Their coat needs regular brushing to prevent matting. Clipping the coat will reduce time needed for grooming.
The Coton Tzu dogs are a mix of two pure breeds that are very loving and affectionate. This hybrid has the same loving and eager to please nature. They are very family oriented dogs who like nothing more than be around their family. They love to get attention and enjoy playing with children. They are social dogs that love to meet people but are alert and suspicious of strangers until properly introduced. They are very playful dogs and active indoor. They may show willful behavior when it comes to training them but will respond to consistent and gentle yet firm training. They are very good choice as family and companion dogs.
Their longish coat will need regular or daily brushing. Bath is needed when necessary. The coat can be clipped to save grooming time.
They are trainable dogs although may show stubbornness. They will need a true pack leader with a firm hand to train them.
These little dogs will need daily walks for 15 to 30 minutes to satisfy their energy levels and instinct for walking.
