BREED DETAILS
GENERAL
GENERAL
The Skilky Terrier is a mix between a purebred Scottish Terrier and a purebred Silky Terrier. These are called hybrid or designer dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds.
The Skilky Terriers are small in size with an average height and weight of 9-11 inches and 10-15 pounds respectively. These dogs are sturdy, loving, charming and intelligent. They like to be with their family. They are energetic and very sporty. They are eager to learn but sometimes, show reluctance and should be trained in a firm yet gentle and consistent manner. These dogs need a firm owner who can establish his authority over them or they will try to become the pack leader. This change in temperament will cause severe behavioral problems.
The Skilky Terriers are spunky, playful, cheerful and alert dogs. They make very good watch dogs as they are very alert of their surroundings. They are generally good with children but need early age socialization with other dogs and pets in the family or they will chase after a cat or other small animals.
These dogs are very good family pets with proper training.

ACTIVITY
The Skilky Terrier dogs are mostly found in black colour. Other colours are wheaten or brindle.
COAT
They can have a long and silky coat like a Silky terrier or a hard, wiry and coarse outer coat with a soft undercoat like a Scottish terrier.
PERSONALITY
The Skilky Terrier dogs are very loving, charming and sporty. They are loveable and eager to please their owners. Intelligent but sometimes stubborn, these dogs need firm hand when training. They are generally good with all family members as long as they are treated as dogs.
They are active and alert dogs, love to dig and play and are full of character. They are best suited to families who can display authority over these dogs as they have a tendency to become pack leaders if the owner or any of the family member is week in establishing his authority over them.
CARE
If the coat is of silky type, it will need regular brushing to keep it free of tangles and mat. This type of coat will need regular cleaning and bathing to keep the hair in top condition.
If the coat is hard, wiry and coarse, it will need brushing twice a week. Bath will be needed as necessary. Trimming will be required twice a year.
TRAINING
They are intelligent dogs that are eager to learn but sometimes display stubborn and willful behavior. These dogs will need a firm and consistent trainer who is calm, confident and authoritative. Harsh methods will not work with these dogs.
ACTIVITY
Despite their small size, these Skilky Terriers will love and need to go on daily walks. Play will take care of their exercise needs but it is no substitute to a dog's primal need to walk. These dogs have good stamina and they would love every opportunity to walk or run in a large and safe play area.
