The Victorian Bulldog is a medium size breed of Bulldog that originated in England. This is a robust dog with large head and thick boned. This breed was developed with the aim to produce original taller and healthier Bulldogs of 1800s. This breeding program was led by Mr. Ken Mollett and the breed is sometimes referred to as Ken Mollett's Bulldogs. To achieve this goal, the best available specimen from Staffords, Bullmastiffs, Doug De Bordeaux and other healthiest Bulldogs were very carefully selected and bred. Using old pictures, statues and written accounts, Mr. Ken Mollett set out to remake the dog of Victorian era and named these dogs as Victorian Bulldogs. Today, the standard for these dogs is set and the breed is gradually gaining popularity.
The Victorian Bulldog is a medium size breed that stands between 16-19 inches and weighs around 55-75 lbs. The head is large with broad muzzle. Black nose has wide nostrils. Eyes are set low and wide apart. Ears may be rose or button shaped but never erect or cropped. Thick and strong neck has loose skin and consequently dewlaps on either side of the neck. The Victorian Bulldog has rounded ribs with a wide chest narrowing towards the loins without exaggeration. The coat is smooth and short. Colors include all brindle, solid white or pied, solid red, fawn or fallow.
