The Bedouin Shepherd Dog is believed to be one of the oldest dog breeds in the world. Originated in Africa, the dog is very adaptable to climate extremes.
It is a medium to large size breed with a height and weight between 22-26 inches and over 50 pounds respectively. The body is muscular and strong with average size erect ears. The muzzle is par-sized while the feet is average length. The tail is short to the tail-boned and curled. The legs are relatively long.
The dog has been in use for many many years by nomads of Sahara. It is used as hunting dog, flock guardian and sometimes as a predator.
There are two variations of this dog. One is larger and is used to guard the camp of nomads themselves. The smaller of the two types is strong and effective herding dogs that are also used to help the shepherds with live stock. They are also used to guard the livestock against predators.
