The Pocket Beagle is a miniature version of standard Beagles that was produced through breeding standard Beagle down in stature throughout many generation while maintaining the typical hound conformation and characteristics. It is also known as Mini Beagle, Olde English Pocket Beagle, Miniature Beagle, Toy Beagle and Tea Cup Beagle. These small yet compact dogs are used for hunting small game. Originating in England in Elizabethan era during mid 1500s, the dogs received instant popularity due to its smaller size, which was easy to carry from one location to another, and for having all the loveable qualities of standard Beagles.
The Pocket Beagles are small, hardy, merry and fun loving dogs that stand between 7-12 inches and weigh around 7-15 lbs. Unlike most other miniature breeds, the Pocket Beagles are rough, tumble and ready for action, without common health problems that some other miniature breeds experience due to reduction in size. They are bred to hunt small game specially rabbits. Regardless of its size, it is difficult to resist the appeal of a Beagle's dark brown or hazel eyes, with their soft, pleading expression. They are squarely built dogs, resembling with English Foxhound, with a square and slightly rounded head and medium length, square muzzle. Black nose has open nostrils. Long ears are pendant shaped, soft and low set. Compact body comes with broad chest which narrows down to a tapered abdomen and waist. Tail is carried gaily but never curled over back. The short, sleek and easy-care coat can come in tricolour, black and tan, red and white, orange and white and lemon and white.
