The origin of the Domestic Dog began with the domestication of the gray wolf (Canis lupus) several tens of thousands of years ago. They are generally used for both domesticated and feral varieties. They were probably the first animals to be tamed and have been the most widely kept working, hunting and companion animal in human history.
The Domestic Dogs have many behaviors shared with their wild relatives. They defend their territories and mark them by urinating on trees, rocks, fence posts, and other suitable sites. These scent posts serve notice to other dogs that an animal is occupying its territory.
