The Mountain View Cur is a hard hunting dog with balanced temperament. It is a rather new breed that was developed in late 1980s by a husband-wife couple of Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. Bloodgood in United States. The main purpose for developing this breed was to create a treeing dog with superior scenting abilities and to track, trail and hunt small and large game. This dog was developed from a strain of Mountain Cur breed. It is an exceptional hunting and treeing dog with its courageous, unintimidating and brave nature. This dog can bravely take on game much larger its size and is an avid hunter of hare, squirrel, raccoon, coyote, rabbits, hare, turkey, grouse, opossum and pheasants.
This is a hardy breed that works tirelessly in harshest conditions and most unfriendly weather conditions. The dog stands between 18-26 inches and weighs between 30-60 lbs. It has a wide, dome flat head that leads to heavy muzzle. Dark coloured predominant eyes are very expressive. Small to medium size ears are set high, dropped and hang close to the head. This strong boned and well muscled dog comes with strong muscular neck, straight and strong back and deep chest. Tail is naturally bobbed. Speed is an asset of this dog and it is enhanced by the presence of cat-like paws and straight, strong and very muscular legs. It has a double coat with undercoat being short and soft while outer coat is short and smooth or rough. Colours include brindle, solid black, black brindle and yellow.
Though this breed is noted for remarkable uniformity in its appearance, it is NOT recognized by AKC or any other major kennel club.
